An award winning architect, an urbanist, an active academic, an educator and the current LWK+ Partners Design Director; Kourosh Salehi can be identified by many names and titles, but on Sunday the 15th of November 2020, we had the great privilege of identifying him as the guest speaker on our AED Virtual Council MS Teams Channel, where he joined us to talk about his architectural journey.
In his talk, Salehi went over his experience as an architecture student in the 80's in London, his admiration of Zaha Hadid and Louis Khan and how they shaped his view on architecture, and the early beginnings of his career.
He also expanded on his architectural views and explained the concepts and design strategies behind two of his Dubai based projects: Habtoor Towers and the Garden Bridge, stressing on the importance of ensuring that a design is harmonious with its context, rather that just focusing on making it iconic.
I believe I speak for all of us when I say Kourosh Salehi's talk inspired us all to do better, to carefully consider the implications our designs have on the community and the city, for no design is ever disconnected from its context. We must remember that we are designing for people, and what use is a beautiful design when we disrupt the lives of those affected by it.
